Keeping the Course on Tourism Objectives

Several government measures to achieve the objectives

Tourism activities, impacted by the health crisis, are trying to make up for lost time. Despite challenges and setbacks, the outlook is more promising than in previous years.

The Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Viviane Dewa, invited journalists to discuss this topic. The focus was on an overview of the situation since she took charge of the ministry. The first obvious question from journalists: Will Madagascar be able to host one million tourists under optimal conditions by 2028, a significant challenge? Without dodging the question, Viviane Dewa emphasized that all government measures are being coordinated to meet this goal.

As a result, the government has established a cross-sector strategy based on seven pillars. These include domain management (organizing stakeholders), infrastructure development (building 11,500 quality hotel rooms), promoting the destination (participation in international trade shows and leveraging influencers), improving air connectivity (for long-haul and domestic flights), ensuring tourist safety, enhancing sports offerings (beach soccer, golf, kitesurfing, water sports, trail running, hiking), and professional training for industry workers.

To celebrate this national ambition, a new tourism logo for Madagascar was unveiled: It symbolizes a baobab, the country’s emblem, and towering waves, representing the island’s stunning coastlines.
