30 field epidemiologists certified

On Friday, at LA2M in Androhibe, a ceremony was held to recognize significant achievements. The COI, led by Edgard Razafindravahy, reaffirmed its commitment to the country’s health protection.

The Malagasy Medical Analysis Laboratory (LA2M) hosted a triple event in Androhibe. Edgard Razafindravahy, Secretary-General of the Indian Ocean Commission (COI), led a ceremony that highlighted the recent advancements of the SEGA-One Health network. Among the distinguished guests were the Minister of Health from Maluku, the French ambassador, the Madagascar director of the French Development Agency (AFD), and a spokesperson from the European Union’s embassy.

During this event, 30 field epidemiologists were certified, 1 million EUR worth of equipment was handed over to Madagascar’s health authorities, and 12 maintenance technicians completed their training. These advancements were made possible through the support of the European Union and the French Development Agency. After an intensive 13-week training program, these professionals are now equipped to detect and control epidemics. They are now the first line of defense against health crises. Currently, Madagascar has 119 certified epidemiologists, and there are 257 across the country, strengthening its capacity to protect the population from health threats.

Additionally, more than 1,000 health professionals in Madagascar have received specialized training, particularly in animal health, laboratories, and community monitoring. This enhances healthcare across all regions, including remote areas.
