Expansion of Victoria Port : 77 Million EUR Subsidy

Project supported by EU funding

The partnership dialogue between the European Union and Seychelles has resulted in an agreement to continue cooperation in critical sectors for the island nation, particularly in the fight against climate change and the loss of biodiversity.

The EU has also approved the disbursement of additional financial aid to Seychelles for the expansion and renovation of Victoria Port. The project will benefit from a 77 million EUR subsidy under the Team Europe strategy. The Samoa Agreement, which provided the framework for the first partnership dialogue between these two entities, took place on Thursday in Victoria.

This was the first partnership dialogue held under the framework of the new Samoa Agreement between the European Union and Seychelles. The meeting was attended by nine EU members, representatives from the European Investment Bank, eight Seychellois ministers, and local agency spokespersons. According to Radegonde, who led the dialogue, this partnership will shape the relationship between the European Union and the Organization of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OEACP) for the next twenty years.

The EU is seen by Seychelles as a key partner in promoting sustainable development. According to Benedikt, in an ever-changing world, a mutually beneficial collaboration is not an option but a necessity. Thus, the European Union maintains a constant and constructive partnership with Seychelles in terms of economic development, security, climate change, environmental protection, as well as governance, and human rights.
