New roads to be designed for durability
Paving work has commenced in the city of Antananarivo, with support from the Ministry of Public Works benefiting both the urban municipality and the Analamanga region.
On the ring road between Rasalama and Ampandrana, potholes are gradually disappearing. Since Monday night, construction vehicles have been working to remove damaged sections of this road. The work is progressing quickly, with the base layer being installed yesterday. The construction company Magic Construction is in charge of the project and plans to start applying the asphalt layer by Thursday. This marks the beginning of road renovations in Antananarivo.
According to the Minister of Public Works, Richard Théodore Rafidison, « urgent » repairs will be made to key damaged areas in the capital following the directives of President Andry Rajoelina, in response to residents’ complaints. Approximately 20 roads will be included in this project, financed by the state. The aim is to complete the work within two months, ahead of the rainy season.
The repair of the road between Besarety, Rasalama, and Ambanidia is confirmed, but many tasks remain, including work on roads in Mandroseza, Ambodin’Isotry near the EPP, Ampasampito-Andraisoro (which has already been restored), Ambatomaro, Mausolée-Andraisoro, Betongolo, Andravoahangy, and Analakely behind the Pavilions.
Thierry Vita Botsy, a technical expert, noted the necessity of deep treatment, as the base layer is beyond recovery. The new roads will be designed for resilience under specific conditions. He added that the warranty for these roads is five years, but their lifespan could extend beyond 10 years if regular road maintenance, drainage clearing, and truck weight limits are adhered to.
