Enhancing customs Procedures

The customs administration has begun developing its strategic plan for the next five years. This initiative continues the reforms started in 2019 within the customs sector.

To shape this plan, international trade stakeholders and customs users have been consulted. Over five days, consultations with local trade actors will be held to gather expectations and suggestions, helping to define the customs administration’s strategic directions. Key areas of responsibility, such as trade facilitation, customs’ fiscal role, security, and safety, as well as organizational and human capital development, will be addressed during these consultations.

Through this process, operators and freight forwarders will be informed of the latest developments in trade practices. According to the Madagascar Syndicate of Operators and Freight Forwarders, significant progress has been made since the customs reform program began, particularly through face-to-face interactions with relevant parties.

Davida Andriamandimbisoa, the president of this professional group, emphasized that trade is constantly evolving, and it is crucial to improve customs procedures, especially in terms of clearance. The customs administration should also prioritize centralizing operations and facilitating trade at borders.
