Expanding International Collaborations
During a meeting with the Executive Director of the International Trade Centre (ITC), Madagascar has expressed its interest in hosting international events to expand collaborations.
Madagascar aims to strengthen its international presence and extend its collaborations by positioning itself as a host for future ITC-organized events. At the Summit of the Future in New York, the country’s Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Environment met with ITC Executive Director Pamela Coke-Hamilton. During this gathering, the Malagasy representatives conveyed their desire for the island nation to host key international events organized by the ITC.
These events present a valuable opportunity to attract new, impactful investments. Madagascar has expressed interest in hosting various international forums, such as the SADC Summit, and has invited the ITC to organize an event similar to the YECO Programme. This could capture the attention of investors, particularly in Madagascar’s key industries like vanilla production, where the country leads the world, accounting for nearly 75 % of global output.
This year has already seen significant international events held in Madagascar, including the Women Entrepreneurs and Leaders Conference of COMESA in July, as well as the Africa 50 Shareholders General Assembly. These gatherings have fostered strategic partnerships with regional organizations. Building on this momentum, Madagascar now seeks to elevate its international aspirations. During the meeting with the ITC Executive Director, Madagascar’s Foreign Minister discussed several potential partnership projects. The ITC reaffirmed its support, especially concerning the strategy for Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
