National road renovation : Delays on construction sites

Urgent need to fulfill commitments

Prime Minister Christian Ntsay expressed frustration over delays in national road construction projects during a meeting with the Ministry of Public Works. He issued strict instructions to ministry officials to address these issues.

Delays will no longer be tolerated. Prime Minister Christian Ntsay delivered clear directives to officials from the Ministry of Public Works earlier this week. During his visits to newly appointed ministers, the Prime Minister has been assessing work plans and outlining priorities for execution.

The Prime Minister expressed his displeasure at the ongoing delays in national road construction and renovation, attributing much of the problem to the unprofessionalism of certain companies that have won public contracts. He criticized ministry officials for failing to adequately monitor the progress of these projects, emphasizing that it is unacceptable for a company to dominate the market without the resources to complete its tasks. The significant delays in completing roadworks were a focal point of the discussion.

Ntsay also called for full transparency in the negotiation of public contracts. Ministry officials are responsible for overseeing project execution, and the Prime Minister stressed the need to make optimal use of foreign aid allocated for road maintenance. Additionally, discussions centered around establishing a new status for the road fund, with the Prime Minister underscoring the importance of adhering to existing legal frameworks during its creation.
