Meeting between the OECD SG and the Mauritian Prime Minister

OECD to provide policy support for economic growth

On Friday, September 6th, OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann met with Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth at the Treasury Building in Port Louis, accompanied by Dr. Renganaden Padayachy, Minister of Finance, Economic Planning, and Development.

The visit marked the official launch of an OECD country program for Mauritius, aimed at supporting the island nation through policy analyses and recommendations. The program will focus on tackling economic challenges, advancing structural reforms, and improving the overall business environment. Key areas of support include strengthening institutions, corporate governance, and enhancing regulatory frameworks while promoting efficient tax policies and anti-corruption measures.

During the meeting, Secretary-General Cormann highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating that the launch of the country program opens a new chapter in collaboration between Mauritius and the OECD. Both parties will work together on a broad spectrum of policies, particularly those related to economic, social, and environmental sectors. The ultimate goal is to align Mauritius’ policies with global best practices, fostering inclusive, sustainable growth for the country.

In addition to the meeting, Cormann attended the African Roundtable on Sustainable, Green, and Smart Finance, a gathering of central bank governors from the East African region. A key highlight of his visit was the signing of the OECD Declaration on Investment, which is expected to further enhance Mauritius’ appeal as a destination for foreign direct investment.
