Promoting ecological and healthier global development
During his presentation at the 2024 Interregional Seminar on implementing the SDGs, the President of the National Assembly of Seychelles emphasized the impact of global events on the parliaments of developing countries.
The seminar coincided with the 40th anniversary of the National People’s Assembly (NPA) joining the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and took place in Beijing, China, from August 19 to 28. The Seychelles delegation included the Leader of the Opposition, Sébastien Pillay, MP for the Central District of Bel Air, and Registrar Brigitte Contort. Zhao Leji, the President of the National People’s Congress, presided over the opening ceremony at the Great Hall of the People, which brought together speakers and heads of delegations from around the world.
The seminar underscored the importance of peace and stability in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It also highlighted the role of parliaments in fostering a more advanced world through mutual collaboration as essential for reaching these goals.
China’s sustained commitment to the IPU and the global parliamentary network was also recognized. As a leader in the global economy, China’s dedication to peace and stability is highly valued. The Global Development Initiative, which aims to achieve the sustainability goals of the 2030 Agenda, promotes equitable collaborations and encourages the pursuit of stronger, greener, and healthier global development.
