Supporting vulnerable populations in the region
On Thursday, August 29, 2024, the Resources and Nature Foundation (Forena) launched a training program for 17 women in the Southeast region.
Kazuhiko Sugano, General Manager of MOL (Mauritius) Ltd, expressed his support for the initiative, stating, « MOL has a group policy regarding corporate citizenship activities ». He added that one of the group’s guiding principles, as part of their corporate mission, is to take the initiative in addressing societal issues and acting responsibly. Sharing MOL’s perspective, Sugano affirmed, « We will participate in creating a sustainable society and realizing the Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations ».
Manoj Vaghjee, President of Forena, emphasized the organization’s commitment to supporting vulnerable populations in the region, who have been doubly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Wakashio shipwreck. « We will support these 17 women over four months. We are educating them on plant propagation, organic farming methods, and compost production, raising their awareness of how these practices impact the quality of care ».
Nandita Ramdewar, CEO of the State Insurance Company Ltd (Sicom) group, highlighted that « Sicom’s commitment is driven by the belief that true progress comes through participation ». She added, « Our pride lies in our dedication to a cause closely aligned with our values : sustainability, community development, and women’s empowerment. These women, now equipped with essential skills, can contribute to the restoration of our coastal ecosystem and pass on their knowledge, becoming the driving force behind a virtuous cycle ».
