Highest distinction awarded
In its latest edition of the 2024 Central Banker Report Cards, Global Finance magazine awarded the Governor of the Bank of Mauritius, Harvesh Seegolam, for the second consecutive year. Once again, he received an « A » grade.
Global Finance has been publishing the Central Banker Report Cards annually since 1994. The goal is to assess the performance of central bank governors from nearly 100 countries, territories, and important districts. Other institutions included in the ranking are the European Union, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the Bank of Central African States, and the Central Bank of West African States.
The grading scale ranges from « A+ » to « F ». The most important evaluation criteria include results achieved in various sectors, particularly in controlling inflation, meeting economic growth targets, maintaining currency stability, and regulating interest rates. An « A » grade represents outstanding performance, while an « F » indicates complete failure.
Only three governors received an « A+ » grade, including Christian Kettel Thomsen from Denmark, Shaktikanta Das from India, and Thomas Jordan from Switzerland. An « A » grade was awarded to six other countries : Brazil – Roberto Campos Neto, Chile – Rosanna Costa, Morocco – Abdellatif Jouahri, South Africa – Lesetja Kganyago, Sri Lanka – Nadalal Weerasinghe, and Vietnam – Nguyen Thi Hong. An « A- » grade was given to 15 central bank governors, including those from the United States, Sweden, Canada, and the EU.
