Unique identifier : Biometric enrollment to begin soon

World Bank-Funded Project

Starting in September, every citizen in Madagascar is expected to receive a digital identifier. The official launch of biometric enrollment for citizens has been announced by the Minister of Digital Development, Posts, and Telecommunications.

The project will be carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of the Interior, funded by the World Bank. The tender process for purchasing the biometric kit and the Integrated Database Management System (IDMS) has already been completed.

A working meeting was organized with the presence of the Minister of Decentralization and Territorial Development to devise an effective strategy for the nationwide deployment of biometric enrollment. The meeting also highlighted the urgency of priority projects, particularly the modification of civil status records and the management of the unique identifier, in preparation for the upcoming introduction of the biometric national identity card.

This meeting was also attended by key stakeholders from the strategic projects Prodigy and Prea. Additionally, the head of the World Bank working group discussed strategies to increase the project Prodigy’s payment rate, which currently stands at 25 %.
