Workshop on cybersecurity risks in Seychelles

Maintaining vigilance against cyber attacks

A group of IT security experts is participating in the second edition of the National Cyber Drill 2024. The aim of this exercise is to assess the capabilities of these professionals in Seychelles and ensure the country’s preparedness against cyber attacks.

In his opening address, the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology (DICT), Benjamin Choppy, emphasized the importance of maintaining vigilance and preparedness against evolving cybersecurity threats. He noted that the first edition of the National Cyber Drill took place in June last year, and improvements have been made based on participant feedback.

« In reflecting on the success of the first National Cyber Drill in 2023, DICT carefully considered feedback from participants. As a result, this year’s cybersecurity exercise will be more technical. We’ve incorporated more technical exercises to give you an enhanced hands-on experience », said the Chief Secretary.

Beryl Payet, director of policy strategy and research at DICT, highlighted the importance of involving professionals from Seychelles’ critical information infrastructures, such as banks, telecommunications, and law enforcement, in the exercise. « The exercise will take place in a virtual environment, with participants divided into different teams. Thereafter, simulations will be carried out under various forms of attacks against which they will have to cope », she said. The cyber training workshop is being conducted in collaboration with the Mauritius Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-MU).
