Protecting and restoring marine and terrestrial ecosystems
The « Indian Ocean Business Biodiversity Fund » is financing ten projects in the Indian Ocean, following a call for proposals launched in May by Varuna Biodiversity.
Of the ten projects financed by the « Indian Ocean Business Biodiversity Fund », six are led by Malagasy companies, three by Mauritian companies, and one is a regional initiative. The Varuna Biodiversité program, funded by the French Development Agency, encourages innovative projects to enhance the sustainability of the Indian Ocean, involving all sectors of society, including private businesses.
The Fund’s overall budget is 2.5 million EUR, aimed at supporting innovative and economically viable projects that are exemplary and replicable on a regional scale. These projects focus on protecting and restoring marine and terrestrial ecosystems.
To mark the launch of the six Madagascan projects, Expertise France organized a training and discussion workshop for project managers and their partners on July 17 and 18 in Antananarivo. This workshop established the framework for ongoing project support. A similar workshop is scheduled for early August in Mauritius to support local projects.
