Promoting ecosystem resilience
On May 23, 2024, the European Union launched a project aimed at fostering collaboration among government agencies, the private sector, and organizations in Seychelles.
Nature Seychelles will spearhead the project titled « Improving Climate Adaptation and Environmental Governance through Local Participation and Co-Management in Seychelles », which will receive financial backing of 218 thousand EUR from the European Union.
Renowned for its expertise in environmental protection and management in the Indian Ocean, Nature Seychelles took the helm of this initiative. The project was inaugurated by the European Union’s Ambassador to Seychelles, Oskar Benedikt, alongside the French Ambassador to Seychelles, Olivia Berkeley-Christmann.
The primary objective of the project is to enhance research and management of mangroves to bolster ecosystem resilience. Additionally, it aims to educate and empower individuals with the requisite knowledge to contribute to the preservation and restoration of wetlands.
Dr. Nirmal Shah, Managing Director of Nature Seychelles, highlighted that the project will engage various stakeholders, including wetland management professionals, hotels, environmental associations, entrepreneurs, and the private sector.
