Resuming bilateral cooperation
Mrs. Rasata Rafaravavitafika, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Madagascar, visited Hungary on April 12, 2023, where she met with His Excellency Mr. Peter Sijjarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
This meeting marks the first high-level encounter between the two nations. In 2025, Madagascar and Hungary will celebrate the 50th anniversary of establishing their diplomatic relations. This official visit represents a significant milestone in enhancing the ties between the two countries, aimed at revitalizing their cooperation.
During this meeting, a memorandum of understanding on political consultations between the Malagasy and Hungarian ministries of foreign affairs was signed. Hungary also announced its commitment to provide emergency financial assistance for the victims of Cyclone GAMANE and support Madagascar in the reconstruction efforts following this natural disaster.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted several partnership opportunities that can contribute to Madagascar’s development objectives. Agriculture, water management, waste management, tourism, higher education, and scientific cooperation were relevant sectors.
Madagascar and Hungary have agreed to renew their bilateral partnership, and both foreign affairs ministries have explored cooperation possibilities to exchange best practices in diplomacy to address the evolving challenges of international relations.
