Reducing the airport’s carbon footprint

Fascène International Airport (Nosy Be) has recently transitioned to solar energy for its power needs. Since March, the airport, under the management of Ravinala Airports, has installed solar shading systems that provide electricity to the facility during both daytime operations and flight hours.

Utilizing 52 kWp solar shading systems, the terminal at Fascène International Airport can significantly reduce its carbon footprint. These systems not only provide electricity for operations but also offer shaded and rain-protected parking spaces for 20 vehicles, enhancing services for customers and users.

This eco-friendly initiative is part of Ravinala Airports’ commitment to sustainable operations. According to a press release from Ravinala Airports, the goal is to achieve 35 % renewable energy usage by 2025 for both Nosy Be and Antananarivo airports. It’s worth noting that Nosy Be airport has attained Level 2 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) from the Airports Council International (ACI). This accreditation acknowledges the efforts undertaken since 2019 to reduce carbon emissions.
