Emtel and Eutelsat Group join forces to realize this project

Emtel Ltd has partnered with the Eutelsat Group, specializing in low Earth orbit satellite constellations, to establish the first ground station in Mauritius. This partnership, beneficial for both customers and businesses, aims to extend the coverage of the Eutelsat Group’s low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation along the east coast of the African continent, Madagascar, and other island nations in the Indian Ocean.

The ground station in Mauritius, operated by the Eutelsat Group, will be connected by geographically diverse submarine cables, enhancing network resilience and making it the country’s largest consumer of international bandwidth.

By enabling LEO satellites to provide high-speed, low-latency connectivity within a radius of 3,500 km around Mauritius, the ground station will help bridge the digital divide in Africa and the surrounding islands while improving connectivity for aircraft and vessels crossing the Indian Ocean.

Coastguards and naval fleets operating in Mauritian waters and beyond can access high-speed, low-latency connectivity, enhancing communications, coordination, and situational awareness through this partnership. This will facilitate maritime operations, such as fishing patrols and rescue operations, to be faster and more efficient.
