Top ranking in sub-Saharan Africa

Seychelles maintains its leading position in sub-Saharan Africa for the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2023, climbing three spots in the global ranking.

The CPI report, conducted annually by Transparency International and released on January 30th, evaluates corruption perception in the public sector on a scale of 0 to 100. Seychelles achieved a score of 71 out of 100, securing the 20th position among 180 countries worldwide and being recognized as one of the 17 countries with the best score.

This highlights Seychelles’ significant strides in enhancing governance but underscores the ongoing challenge of combating corruption. Transparency Initiative Seychelles (TIS) emphasizes the importance of continuous legislative review, enforcement of whistleblower protection, and tackling impunity.

However, Seychelles’ progress stands in contrast to the broader global scenario, where many countries still struggle to make headway against public sector corruption. In sub-Saharan Africa, Cape Verde follows Seychelles with a score of 64 and Botswana trails with 59 points.
