Commitment to Sustainable Tourism
President Ramkalawan pledges Seychelles’ commitment to ensuring sustainable tourism. The President of Seychelles joined several other global leaders at the 11th World Summit, which is currently taking place in Dubai from February 12th to 14th, 2024.
In his address to world leaders at the event, the Head of State underscores Seychelles’ central role in nature conservation. Seychelles is implementing various initiatives to promote sustainable tourism, ecological balance, and the nation’s economic well-being.
Key points discussed include the blue economy, Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label (SSTL), renewable energy sources, and community participation, among other significant initiatives. « At the heart of Seychelles’ approach is its commitment to the blue economy, which includes designating a significant portion of the country’s marine territory as protected areas, including marine parks and reserves », President Ramkalawan stated.
These efforts are crucial for preserving biodiversity and safeguarding marine ecosystems for future generations. Additionally, Seychelles has established the Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label (SSTL). This certification program recognizes accommodations, operators, and tourist services adhering to sustainable practices such as effective waste management, energy conservation, and community engagement. Through such conservation efforts, Seychelles has achieved an admirable record of protecting 30% of its marine territory and 50% of its landmass.
